Whats the ideal Phi location for a divertor chamber?

The target maker only works semi automated for a single phi angle. Current default is phi=18° as the center of our modeling space from 0-36°.

Which is the ideal phi angle to design a target in? Is there a standardized numbering for the islands?

Engineering:

  • Location of AEH and AEP as turbo pump ports.
  • Distance of island to plasma vessel determiens how much structure one can use for a chamber

Physics:

  • Location of largest island width in radial direction, to allow for SOL baffle -> is this in the triangular plane? In the triangular plane there's not much space to the plasma vessel.
  • Location of largest magnetic flux expansion, would spread out the heat layer over a larger surface

How do we determine the island width and flux expansion for each island between 0-36°?

Other Topics:

  • Chi_perp/D_perp input for EMC3Lite: We will match it to the experiment which gets closest to our defined boundary conditions. Once a scaling becomes available from Amit and Yu, we will extrapolate it to the defined boundary.
  • X-O-X Splinge - Test this at the Bean shape plane, as the quality is easiest assesst here due to the symmetries.
    • Do we need addtional points to define the spline? The poloidal turning point of the island surfaces?
    • Can we get a "perturbance free" iota=1 surface without any islands with the control coils?

Baffle Maker:

  • Use a B-spline from other modules
  • Can we use a surface slightly outside the LCFS inside the SOL? Use the last closed island surface instead of the separatrix as a boundary?
  • At Phi=0° Asymetry in the flux tube counter observed, but there shouldnt be any at this plane. Is this because only one side of the cell is counted? Can we average both sides?
  • Still some issues with the toroidal resolution observed, and slight loads are visualized in target shadow regions.
